Hobart continues sustainability journey with ImpactLoop

Katherine Alano

Hobart is continuing its sustainability journey as it moves into year two of partnership with global decarbonisation tech company, ImpactLoop.

The Peterborough-based manufacturer was the first in the sector to back ImpactLoop in a shared ambition to explore commercial catering embodied carbon data - the measurement of greenhouse gas emissions generated by the manufacturer for products sold into the UK market.

The partnership has already proven successful, with Hobart establishing baseline carbon data for 80 of its fastest-selling products.

According to Tracy Southwell, managing director of Hobart, the transparent approach and focus on life cycle assessments have become increasingly significant in influencing purchasing decisions. This has played a key role in the company’s continued success.

“We took the leap with ImpactLoop to build our knowledge and understanding of embodied carbon, and its importance in the catering equipment sector — a first for our industry. Over the past 12 months, momentum has grown, and there is now a clear demand for carbon data from forward-thinking dealers, projects, and consultants,” Southwell said.

Looking ahead, Hobart is taking carbon data to the next stage of the lifecycle assessment, exploring alternative end of life options and run pilot schemes to better understand and adapt to the evolving "currency of carbon."
